Just a day after filmmaker Karan Johar announced he is the proud father of twins via surrogacy, television couple Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee have revealed that they have adopted two girls. The girls, Pooja and Lata, belong to Gurmeets hometown in Bihar, Jarampur.
The television's Ram and Sita have announced that they will be adopting two girls, aged six and nine, from Jarampur. The couple will be traveling to the small village where the two girls, Lata and Pooja stay and bring them to Mumbai. The paperwork is done, and the couple will visit Jarampur for the final signatures after Holi.
Incidentally, Gurmeets parents are settled in Jarampur, where his mother runs a school. The couple met the two girls first in 2014, when the couple were there to attend a family wedding. Pooja and Lata are cousins and have lost their parents recently and now living a distant relative. Gurmeet's mother, who is close to the girls, felt that the children would have to work in people's homes as domestic help to sustain themselves and approached Gurmeet for help. "After hearing about their plight from my mother I discussed them with my wife. Debina agreed with me that it was time to give the kids a home, a deserving education and my last name," said Gurmeet to Mumbai Mirror.
The couple admit that they had developed instant liking for the two girls when they first met them three years back and kept getting updates about their lives through his mother.
"All the paperwork is done. We will be going to Jarampur for the final signatures after Holi. It is a two-day process.Everybody, including my parents, keep asking me when I'm planning a baby. Well, it's official now, I'm bringing home two daughters and we couldn't be more excited," said Gurmeet.
The girls will not move in with the couple instantly though. Gurmeet feels that uprooting them from their place and moving them to the city will make things difficult for the young girls as they wont be able to adjust to the busy city life. The actor said eventually they will be shifted to Mumbai. After one academic year, they will shift in with us in our Andheri home by 2018. My brother and his family live in Patna and they will be around to see that they are well cared for. Debina and I will travel to Patna three-four times in the year and stay there through their summer vacation too,"
The elder one, Lata, is surrently binge watching Gurmeets shows, the actor informed and has given her consent to the couples idea, but the younger one, Pooja is still not aware that she is becoming a part of a new family. Gurmeet stated that he doesnt want to completely alienate the girls from their family and that they will be visiting Jarampur during their vacations when they start living in Mumbai.
Gurmeet and Debina tied the knot in February 2011 in a private ceremony in Mumbai. The couple state that they would also like have their own children in the near future.
Gurmeet also said that his family and friends had been asking the couple to start a family, so he and Debina are extremely excited to have Pooja and Lata, and they cant wait to start this new chapter in their lives.
